Coalitions

OPASTCO also works with various coalitions in order to best ensure a thriving, competitive rural industry for its members.  Currently, the coalitions of which OPASTCO is a member include:

  • Fair Access to Content and Telecommunications (FACT)
FACT was founded by OPASTCO, the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), and the Rural Independent Competitive Alliance (RICA) to address issues raised by the proposed merger of Comcast Corporation and NBC Universal and related issues of video access for television and online viewing.
  • American Television Alliance (ATVA)
ATVA brings together consumer groups, cable, satellite and telephone companies, and independent programmers to raise awareness about the risk viewers face as broadcasters increasingly threaten service disruptions that would deny viewers access to the programs that they and their families enjoy.
  • Coalition for Competition in Media (CCM)
CCM is made up of a wide array of public-interest groups and private organizations that oppose the merger of Comcast and NBC-Universal, as proposed, because of the serious threats it poses to consumers and fair competition in the media market.
